Self-esteem and confidence are hugely important! What better way to improve your personal appearance and self-esteem than by straightening your teeth…and improving your teeth and gum's health, too!

Braces treatment is widely common for orthodontic patients. Today there are many equitable options, including traditional metal braces, inconspicuous clear or tooth-colored braces, and clear aligners – a relatively new option for adults and teens. Orthodontic patients now have more options than ever.

Metal braces / Traditional braces

The most common type of fixed braces is still to this day the traditional metal braces. Made of high-grade stainless steel with metal bands that wrap around the back molars, and small metal brackets that are cemented to the front of teeth and a thin metal wire that gently guides teeth into proper position.

This option continues to be the most commonly used for several important reasons: they are reliable, efficient, and they won't burn a hole in your wallet. Compared to the metal braces of the past, today's braces are smaller, lighter and more comfortable to wear. Many patients enjoy "dressing up" their braces with colorful elastics, for a fun and individual look.

Ceramic Braces

Many patients prefer a less noticeable braces option. Clear ceramic braces, a newer variation on the traditional system, provide exactly what they're looking for. These braces use the same components as traditional braces with one major difference – the brackets on the front side of the teeth are made of translucent ceramic material that blends in with the tooth's natural color. Adults tend to favor this option because of that exact feature!

Elastic bands around ceramic braces are generally changed monthly, but something to keep in mind is that these elastics can become less durable and more noticeable when stained. If cost is an issue, ceramic braces are more expensive than metal braces, but for many people the inconspicuous look exceeds the increased cost.

Lingual Braces

There is an even more inconspicuous type of fixed braces: lingual braces. These work in the same way that metal braces do, but their placement is a bit different.  Placed on the tongue-side of the teeth and significantly more expensive than standard braces, lingual braces generally require more time to get use to and they may prolong treatment. These tradeoffs may not be a deal breaker for you if you want the least visible type of fixed braces.

Removable Aligners

Removable clear aligners, a series of clear plastic "trays", are an alternative to fixed orthodontic appliances. These "trays" fit over your teeth exactly, each one moving your teeth a little bit until they are in the proper position.

After a thorough examination, our Brick, NJ dental staff will help you decide what the best treatment option is for you.
